A master plan is a dynamic long-term planning document that provides a conceptual layout to guide future growth and development. Master planning is about making the connection between buildings, social settings, and their surrounding environments. A master plan includes analysis, recommendations, and proposals for a site’s population, economy, housing, transportation, community facilities, and land use. It is based on public input, surveys, planning initiatives, existing development, physical characteristics, and social and economic conditions.
Rives Township in Jackson County (immediately south of Leslie Township, Ingham County) is in the process of updating their Master Plan for the first time since 1977.
Of particular interest is the proposed Future Land Use change of prime Open Space/Farmland from Agricultural to Industrial in the NW quadrant of Rives Township immediately adjacent to the southern border of Ingham County/Leslie Township.
This land is in a predominately Agricultural area of Rives Township. And, this Future Land Use is very disturbing to many residents of Rives Township and Tompkins Township (Jackson County), along with those in Leslie Township and Onondaga Township (Ingham County).
We SUSPECT this was highly driven by Novi Energy. It is very suspicious that this shows up on the Draft Master Plan at the same time word leaked that Novi Energy proposes a Power Plant at this location.
